Sagging around the brow line can lead to hooding of the upper lids and make a person appear tired, grumpy, and old. Dr. Hilton Becker performs brow lift surgery in Boca Raton to rejuvenate the appearance of the upper face. A pioneer in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, Dr. Becker has developed his own brow lift technique, published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
What Is a Brow Lift?
Also known as a forehead lift, a brow lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that tightens soft tissues of the forehead to restore a more youthful appearance to the skin of the forehead, eyebrows, and upper eyelids. Dr. Becker performs an endoscopic brow lift with minimal incisions for a less invasive surgery and an easier, faster recovery. This procedure uses an endoscope – a long thin tube with a tiny camera attached that allows the surgeon to view the treatment area during surgery.
Reasons to Have a Brow Lift
A brow lift can help turn back the clock in the eye area and upper face. This procedure can make a person appear happier, friendlier, and more approachable. Brow lift surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation. Recovery time is minimal. Incisions are small and strategically placed to prevent visible scarring.
Patients choose to have brow lift surgery to:
- Lift the brow to a more youthful position
- Smooth deep horizontal lines on the forehead
- Restore a refreshed, more youthful appearance to the face
- Minimize frown lines between the eyebrows
- Reduce hooding of the upper eyelids
- Create a well-rested, more alert appearance
How Is Brow Lift Surgery Performed?
Dr. Hilton Becker performs endoscopic brow lift surgery using several small incisions completely hidden within the hairline. He inserts an endoscope though the incisions, which allows him to view the treatment area on a monitor.
Working through the incisions with tiny surgical instruments, Dr. Becker lifts the forehead skin, repositions the brows, and removes muscle tissue creating lines in the forehead. When the underlying structural work is complete, he removes excess skin and uses sutures to close the incisions.
What Is Recovery Like after a Brow Lift?
You may experience temporary bruising, swelling, and numbness beginning the first night after surgery. These symptoms should subside within 4 or 5 days after the procedure. Although post-surgical pain and discomfort are typically minimal with a brow lift, oral medications can alleviate any discomfort you may experience.
Sleep with your head and back elevated for 5 to 7 days after surgery to help reduce swelling and bruising. Dr. Becker may recommend cold packs around the eyes to reduce swelling for the first 48 hours after the procedure.
Many patients are able to return to work within a week after a brow lift. Although you are encouraged to walk and engage in mild activity during your recovery, you should not do any heavy lifting or engage in strenuous activities until you are fully recovered, and Dr. Becker gives you approval to do so.
