The following information will help in your search for a competent surgeon for your plastic surgery needs. Cosmetic surgery is a major decision and our office would like to help you make the right choice for yourself. Our primary concern is for your safety and then to obtain the surgical outcome you desire.

Choosing a plastic surgeon is an important, life-altering decision.

It is vital to your safety and the success of your cosmetic surgery that the surgeon you choose has the right qualifications, ample experience, and documented results of his or her work and should not be based solely on pricing. Don’t confuse price with value. Included on this page are some guidelines that will help you in your search for the right plastic surgeon.

The popularity of plastic surgery is soaring and more and more doctors are trying to meet the demand for this specialty that has become an integral part of mainstream medicine.

These days, any licensed physician can call himself or herself a cosmetic surgeon; however, that doesn’t necessarily mean he or she is certified or extensively trained in plastic surgery procedures. This makes finding a skilled, experienced, and board-certified plastic surgeon of paramount importance.

When considering plastic surgery, there is no substitute for an ASPS Member Surgeon. Board certification means nothing unless the doctor is board certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. When considering a plastic surgeon it should be based on training and experience.

A surgeon that is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has:

  • Completed a combination of at least six years of general surgery with a minimum of three years of plastic surgery training.
  • Fulfilled continuing medical education requirements on a yearly basis, including standards and innovations in patient safety.
  • Operates only in an accredited medical facility AAAASF Adheres to strict code of ethics.
  • Has hospital privileges to perform the procedure you are interested in.

Don’t be afraid to consult with more than one cosmetic surgeon to discuss your desired outcome. There may be more than one technique available with varying risks, benefits, recovery time and results. We, in our office, recommend that the patient visit at least two plastic surgeons. (You don’t know that you have the best until you have something to compare it to).

When visiting the plastic surgeon, ask to see the doctor’s credential, physician’s medical license, certifications and professional society memberships. Before and after photos can give you some indication of the surgeon’s ability, although you must realize that they cannot guarantee the results you will achieve. Each patient is different and the surgeon can help determine what kind of result you should expect. How many procedures of this type have they performed? Although there’s no magic number (of years or procedures) that defines “experience,” you should feel comfortable that the surgeon you choose is well versed and up-to-date in the procedure you’re considering You can ask the surgeons on your list if they do the procedure frequently or only occasionally, and when they last performed that procedure. You can even ask to speak with other patients who have had the procedure performed by the surgeon.

One of the most important factors in choosing a plastic surgeon is your personal comfort level with the doctor. You should feel comfortable asking questions about your cosmetic surgery procedure so that you can make an educated final decision regarding your surgery. In addition, you should feel at ease with the staff, as much of your communication will be with them. Get a feel for whether the surgeon is listening to what you want. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, no matter how trivial or how personal you think they’ll sound. It’s a good idea to write down your questions before hand, and to make a note of the surgeon’s answers as well.

We treat each patient as unique individuals in a boutique type environment tailored for your needs. If you wish to learn more about our office please feel free to call or us for an appointment. (561) 449-8229.
